In anticipation of the weaver's guild's visit to our project this weekend I decided to take home one of our four shaft table looms that needed a bit of repair. After spending the weekend getting it working I decided to try my hand at warping and weaving on it for the first time without any help and from memory... eek! I'm proud to say that I warped, wove and sewed an ipod holder for my wife (to be critiqued tomorrow). I'm quite chuffed and thought I'd share it with you.
Having a rather craft filled week I also managed to finish hand knitting my wife's shetland crofter's cowl, make homemade rootbeer and apple crisps, and turn out a pair of fingerless gloves on the knitting machine. I have to admit, my weeks aren't normaly that craft filled, but for lent my wife and I (along with 4 of our friends) trying to live off of what we are calling 'alternative economies.' That is trying to spend our money on things that reduce direct reliance on the wider economic system. This can be anything as simple as fairtrade or using waste food to buying strait from farmers and making more from scratch. On one hand it is an attempt to have more of a relationship with the systems were apart of as well as trying to be more waste aware in our consumption. Like last year's lent, where we only ate food grown or reared in Britian, this is an experiment and the rules are there to help us learn.
